I have worked in social care practice for 28 years. I currently work as an independent therapist, working with children and families. I also work as a supervising social worker, offering therapeutic intervention and support for foster children and families and also undertake training and assessments for prospective foster carers.
My previous employment involved working as a mentor and offering one to one intervention with children and young people and therapeutic and mediation work with children and families experiencing relationship and behavioural difficulties. I have also previously worked as a supervising social worker in a fostering and adoption team for the Nottingham City Council and a social worker for a post adoption team supporting adopted families for the Nottinghamshire County Council.
I currently work as an independent therapist, working with children and families.
I completed my level 2 Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy training in April 2015. The training course focusses on therapeutic behaviour management and developing positive attachments between parents and carers of children who have experienced trauma and loss. The course has enhanced my skills, knowledge and understanding with regards to working with traumatised children and supporting families experiencing relationship and attachment difficulties.
I have also undertaken a 12 week training course and a subsequent 4 week course on 'mindfulness' in 2015 which explores areas of stress and anxiety management.
I have worked with children and families in various roles including, safeguarding (Child Protection), residential social work and being a mentor for young people. My experience includes working with individuals on a one to one basis on issues such as self harm, anxiety and depression and alcohol and substance misuse.
I have also undertaken group work facilitating on areas such as, parenting support programmes and mindfulness. I have managed a mentor service, providing training, supervision and consultation for the mentors.
